Bull Dogs beat Columbus East 45-30 in girls basketball sectional semifinal

                COLUMBUS, Ind. – Sophomore Alexa McKinley scored 13 points to lead a balanced attack Friday evening (Feb. 1), helping the Columbus North girls basketball team to a 45-30 victory over Columbus East in the semifinal round of the Columbus East Sectional.

                Sophomore Madison White chipped in nine points as the Bull Dogs (18-7) moved into the sectional final at 7 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 2) against Bloomington South (20-3), a 40-34 winner in overtime over East Central in the opening semifinal.

                Junior Tessa Lomax contributed eight points while senior Nadia Lomax netted seven points for Columbus North in its semifinal. Also, freshman Kylah Lawson provided five points and junior Sierra Norman had three points.

                Freshman Koryn Greiwe scored a game-high 14 points for the Olympians (10-13). However, she scored only two points over the first three quarters thanks to an outstanding defensive effort by CN junior Annie Anderson with help from McKinley and Lawson.

                Junior Kaitlyn Dougherty tallied 10 points for Columbus East.

                White scored six points while McKinley and Nadia Lomax each netted three points in the first quarter as Columbus North took a 14-10 lead. Lawson scored five points while McKinley and Tessa Lomax each had two points in the second quarter as the Bull Dogs went ahead 24-16 at intermission.

                Tessa Lomax scored six points while McKInley and White each sank a 3-pointer in the third quarter as CN pushed the count to 37-17 at the third stop. McKinley scored five points and Nadia Lomax had three points in the final quarter as the Bull Dogs closed out the decision.

                In the opening semifinal, junior Lauren Conner sank a 3-pointer early in overtime to give Bloomington South the lead for good as it went on to prevail. Sophomore Anneke Furr paced the Panthers with 14 points and Conner finished with 11 points. East Central closed its season at 18-7.
