Barker siblings propel Blue over White in All-Area All-Star basketball doubleheader

                COLUMBUS, Ind. – Columbus North siblings Blake and Lauren Barker each had a big night on Monday (March 22) in the All-Area All-Star basketball doubleheader held at Columbus Christian School.

                Senior Blake Barker scored 26 points and CN sophomore Cooper Horn contributed 24 points to lead the Blue over the White 114-111 in the boys’ game. Columbus Christian’s Gabe Ridder chipped in 14 points, while Edinburgh’s Caleb Dewey netted 12 points, Bull Dogs junior Sam King tallied 11 points and CN senior Jakub Trusina had eight points for the winners.

                South Decatur’s Hunter Johnson poured in a game-high 33 points for the White team. South Decatur’s Lane Lauderbaugh added 26 points, while Columbus East senior Jacob Pierce provided 22 points, Brown County’s Travis Ely notched 11 points and Columbus East senior Daniel Murphy had 10 points.

                The White team took a 36-23 lead in the first quarter, but the Blue team countered with a 67-43 advantage over the middle two quarters for a 90-79 edge. The White rallied in the fourth quarter, but the Blue held on for the three-point decision.

                Barker made eight 3-point goals en route to his team-high output. Horn added four 3-point shots.

                In the girls’ game, sophomore Lauren Barker scored a game-high 22 points to propel the Blue to a 60-57 decision over the White. Columbus Christian’s Kayla Jones chipped in 11 points, while the Bull Dogs’ quartet of  senior Kanon Matsuno, senior Madison White, junior Kylah Lawson and sophomore Emma Long added respective totals of 10 points, six points, six points and four points.

                For the White, Columbus East junior Koryn Greiwe tallied a team-best 21 points. Edinburgh’s Gracie Crawhorn provided 10 points and Jennings County freshman Juliann Woodard had nine points.

                The Blue jumped to an 11-4 lead in the first quarter and pushed its edge to 34-24 at intermission. The White closed its deficit to 43-39 at the third stop, and the Blue held on in the fourth quarter for the three-point victory.

                The Blue totaled eight 3-point goals, all from Columbus North player. Barker connected on five shots from beyond the arc, White made two treys and Matsuno sank one 3-pointer.
