Girls Varsity Basketball
January 14, 2022 - After a very competitive first quarter, the Greyhounds of Carmel High School used a 39-13 advantage in the second and third quarters to run away with a 60-26 victory over the host Bull Dogs (10-7) in varsity girls basketball on Thursday night (Jan 13). Carmel knocked down eight three-point goals and the Dogs could never get into any offensive rhythm throughout the game. Carmel’s length and athleticism led to a number of North turnovers and put the Dogs back on their heels through much of the contest.
Lauren Barker’s eight points, Andrea Justis’ seven, and Kylah Lawson’s six accounted for almost all of the Bull Dog scoring. Carmel’s Kate Clarke led all scorers with 19 points, including four three-pointers.
The Greyhounds also took both of the early games. Kathryn Wilson and Elise Preston each scored ten points for the JV girls (14-2), but it wasn’t enough as Carmel came out on top 43-34, ending the JV’s winning streak at 14 games. Kyleigh Wolf had ten points for the freshmen (9-2) as they rallied to cut the deficit to just one point in the fourth quarter. However, Carmel followed with consecutive three-point goals and held on for a 35-29 victory over the Bull Dogs. The loss ended the freshmen girls’ nine-game win streak.
The girls will be on the road Saturday (Jan 15) as the freshmen head to Bishop Chatard for an 11:30 am tip-off. The JV and varsity teams will travel to Lawrenceburg (12:00/1:30).
