Two Columbus North High School seniors took part in a college-bound student-athlete ceremony on Wednesday (Feb. 6) to finalize their commitments for college athletics and academics.
The athletes in the ceremony were football players Trenton Kelley and Nicholas Smith. The ceremony was held in the Columbus North Athletic Conference Room.
This was the second signing ceremony for the 2018-19 school year for athletes in the Class of 2019.
Kelley, a quarterback, is headed to Morehead State University in Kentucky. Smith, an offensive lineman, is bound for the University of Rochester in New York.
Smith will join his brother, Stephon Peters-Smith, who is a member of the Yellowjackets’ basketball program. Stephon, a 2017 graduate of Columbus North, is averaging 1.6 points and 1.5 rebounds as a sophomore for a Rochester squad that is 16-4 overall and 6-3 in the UAA in 2018-19.
Two Columbus North seniors took part in a college-bound ceremony in November. Columbus North plans at least one and possibly two more signing ceremonies later this school year. One will be in April. A possible second one will be in May.
