The Columbus North football team now knows its postseason path.
Two days after falling 27-7 to Bloomington North, the Bull Dogs (4-4) learned Sunday (Oct. 13) that they will visit Franklin Central (4-4) at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1 in the opening round of Class 6A Sectional 8.
The other first-round game in Sectional 8 is Center Grove (4-4) at Columbus East (6-2).
The CN-FC winner will face the CG-Columbus East winner in the sectional final on Friday, Nov. 8. If CN wins its opener, the Bull Dogs will be the visiting team if Center Grove beats Columbus East and CN would be the home team of Columbus East beats Center Grove.
Sectional admission is $6 per person.
In last season’s sectional, Center Grove defeated Columbus North 42-0 and Franklin Central topped Jeffersonville 42-3 in the first round. Center Grove then beat Franklin Central 23-6 in the sectional final and also topped Avon 17-0 in the regional. Last season, Columbus East played in Class 5A and was a sectional and regional champion.
Jeffersonville moved down to Class 5A this season.
In Franklin Central, the Bull Dogs are facing a former Conference Indiana opponent that now plays in the Hoosier Crossroads Conference. The Flashes have won nine sectional championships over the years; they also have won eight regionals, six semi-states and four state titles. Their most recent sectional title came in 1993; their most recent titles in other rounds came in 1990.
Columbus North has won four sectionals and three regionals, the most recent of both in 2007. The Bull Dogs have no semi-state or state titles. Columbus North has won football sectionals in 1989, 2004, 2006 and 2007, all in Class 5A. It also claimed regional titles in the last three of those seasons.
The Bull Dogs close their 2019 regular season at 7:30 p.m. Friday against Terre Haute South (5-3) in a Conference Indiana game.
Last Friday, Franklin Central edged Hamilton Southeastern 7-6 in an HCC game. The Flashes close their regular season this Friday at home against Westfield (4-4) in another HCC game.
Over the years, Center Grove has won 14 sectionals, 13 regionals, four semi-states and two state titles. Columbus East has won 13 sectionals, 11 regionals, three semi-states and three state crowns.
