Varsity football falls to top-ranked Roncalli

September 13, 2021 - The Bull Dog football team traveled to Roncalli High School to take on Class 4A top ranked, and defending state champion Roncalli. The size and strength of Roncalli was too much for the Bull Dogs to handle as they fell 45-12.

Roncalli jumped out to an early 14-0 lead, but the Dogs battled back and put a touchdown on the board with a Luke Hammons to Cooper Horn pass to cut the lead to 14-6.  The next 38 points, however, were scored by Roncalli before backup QB Hudson Elwood ran a touchdown in the fourth quarter, ending the game’s scoring with a 45-12 victory for Roncalli.

Statistically, Roncalli had a balanced offensive attack, rushing for 168 yards on 26 carries, and passing for 168 yards on 10-of-15 passing.  The Bull Dogs rushed for 74 yards on 30 carries (led by Max Mormino’s 26 yards), and passed for 125 yards on 13-of-20 with two interceptions  (receiving was led by Cooper Horn with 38 yards).

The Bull Dogs fell to 2-2 for the season, and the road does not get easier this week as they will host Class 5A top-ranked Cathedral at Max Andress Field.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
