October 10, 2021 - With a share of the Conference Indiana title on the line, the Bull Dogs needed to travel to Bloomington North High School with a solid game plan and great execution. Head coach Tim Bless got both from his Bull Dogs squad as Columbus North dominated the game from the opening kickoff through the final whistle in a 55-19 blowout victory. The victory improves the Bull Dogs’ record to 5-3 overall, 4-0 in Conference Indiana play with one game left in the conference schedule.
Columbus North jumped out to a 28-0 lead just three seconds into the second quarter after two Luke Hammons touchdown passes (one to Keegan Castetter and one to Cooper Horn) and two two Dyllan Redmon rushing touchdowns. The Cougars then returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown to cut the lead to 28-7. Just two plays later, Horn took a reverse handoff and tossed a 79-yard touchdown to Castetter, followed by another Redmon rushing touchdown to take a 41-7 lead and squash any hopes Bloomington North had for a comeback. The Cougars put two scores on the board in the second quarter, but the Dogs answered with two more of their own in the second half (which was played with a running clock) to complete the scoring.
The Dogs had a balanced offensive attack, rushing for 242 yards (led by Hammons’ 103 yards and Redmon’s 102 yards rushing) and passing for 233 yards on 11-of-14 passing. Castetter led all receivers with 125 yards and two touchdowns on five receptions.
The Bull Dogs’ defense held Bloomington North to just 165 total yards of offense, including only 53 yards rushing. They also recorded a fumble recovery and an interception (by Trent Bodart).
The Bull Dogs will finish their regular season hosting Terre Haute South on Friday, October 15. The game will begin at 7:30 pm at Max Andress Field. A victory will secure the outright Conference Indiana title for the Bull Dogs.
