COLUMBUS, Ind. – Sophomore Zac Horn ran for two touchdowns and passed for another Saturday (Sept. 26), lifting the Columbus North JV football team to a 26-16 victory over Lafayette Jeff at Max Andress Field.
Junior Connor Essick and sophomore Max Mormino also reached the end zone for the Bull Dogs, who improved to 3-2 for the season at the JV level.
Junior Bryce Abner provided a defensive highlight. He intercepted Jeff freshman Lance Crowder in the end zone with 28 seconds left in the first half.
Derrick Ferguson and Freddy Patton scored TDs for the visiting Bronchos.
Columbus North was to play at Terre Haute North, but that JV game was canceled when the Patriots were low on numbers because of injury. Subsequently, CN scheduled a home JV with Lafayette Jeff to replace the canceled game.
Essick opened the scoring with an 8-yard touchdown with 7:13 left in the first quarter. By quarter’s end, Horn and Mormino hooked up for an 18-yard TD.
Crowder passed to Ferguson for a 9-yard touchdown and Isaac Nelson converted a two-point run for the visitors. However, Horn scored on a 38-yard run to give the Bull Dogs a 19-8 lead at intermission.
Patton scored on a 65-yard run and Glenn Patterson added a two-point conversion early in the third quarter for the Bronchos. Horn countered that score with a 3-yard TD late in the quarter, and neither team was able to find the end zone in the fourth period.
Columbus North returns to action at 10 a.m. next Saturday (Oct. 3) when it hosts Bloomington South.
