Boys Freshman Football
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Blake Huffman scored two touchdowns Saturday (Sept. 23), but it was not enough as the Columbus North freshman football team lost 21-12 at Terre Haute North.
The Bull Dogs dropped to 5-1 overall and to 3-1 against Conference Indiana opponents with the setback.
Huffman gave the Bull Dogs an early lead with a 61-yard touchdown dash. However, the host Patriots countered with two second-quarter scores and a third-quarter TD for a 21-6 advantage.
THN’s Jace Russell threw two scoring passes, one to Matt Gauer that covered 45 yards and another to Eli Moody for 14 yards. The Patriots’ Daniel Hopkins added an 8-yard touchdown rush.
Huffman found the end zone on a 4-yard run in the fourth quarter to account for the final.
Royce Lofton led the team in tackles for the day, while Huffman and Keegan Hill each recorded a sack.
There was no JV game as Terre Haute North is not fielding a JV team this season.
The Columbus North JV and freshman teams return to action at 10 a.m. next Saturday (Sept. 30) against Perry Meridian. The JV game will be at the Falcons’ new field in Indianapolis. The freshman game will be at Max Andress Field.
