COLUMBUS, Ind. – Freshman Ashlie Wilson and senior Shweta Srinivasan did not drop a game on Friday (May 17), and the Columbus North girls tennis team went on to post a 5-0 victory over Columbus East for the championship of the Columbus North Sectional.
The sectional title was the sixth in a row for the Bull Dogs, who improved to 19-4 for the season, and the 35th in program annals.
Wilson blanked Olympians junior Kathryn Hodson 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while Srinivasan blitzed East sophomore Louna Prince 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.
Junior Eva Chevalier completed the sweep in singles, while the tandems of junior Ali Bergman and sophomore Jaline Tay as well as senior Servane Cloteaux and freshman Tiffany Fu also prevailed.
Chevalier defeated Olympians senior Megna Chari 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. Bergman and Tay topped East sophomore Ayana Nomura and junior Cristina Marco-Rueda 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles. Cloteaux and Fu posted a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Olympians freshman Catherine Millwood and junior Emie Kiser 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.
Columbus North advances to the Bloomington South Regional, where it will play Bloomington South (7-8) at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday (May 21) in a semifinal match. Greensburg and Seymour, winners of their own sectionals, will play in the other semifinal. The semifinal winners will square off in the regional final at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday (May 22).
The Bull Dogs are seeking their fourth consecutive regional crown and the 21st regional title in program history.
