Bull Dogs overwhelm Seymour 5-0 to claim girls tennis regional crown; CN to face Evansville Memorial in semi-state

                BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Columbus North girls’ tennis team left no doubt on Wednesday (May 22) in the finals of the Bloomington South Regional.

                The co-No. 8 Bull Dogs overwhelmed Seymour by dropping just two games in a 5-0 triumph en route to claiming their fourth consecutive regional title and the 21st regional crown in program history.

                Freshman Ashlie Wilson, junior Eva Chevalier, senior Shweta Srinivasan and the tandem of junior Ali Bergman and sophomore Jaline Tay all won points without dropping a game. The duo of Servane Cloteaux and freshman Tiffany Fu dropped just two games.

                Wilson whipped Owls sophomore Sandra Cerino 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Chevalier blanked Seymour junior Peyton Levine 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Srinivasan blitzed Owls sophomore Kirby Hill 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

                At No. 1 doubles, Bergman and Tay shut out Seymour senior Kristina Griffin and sophomore Mallory Moore 6-0, 6-0. At No. 2 doubles, Cloteaux and Fu defeated Owls freshman Madalyn Baurle and sophomore Avery Ragon 6-2, 6-0.

                Columbus North (21-4) advances to the Jasper 2 Semi-State at noon Saturday (May 25), where the Bull Dogs will face No. 6 Evansville Memorial. The Tigers defeated Evansville Mater Dei 5-0 in its regional final after topping Gibson Southern 4-1 in the regional semifinal.

                Columbus North is seeking its third semi-state championship and its fifth berth in the IHSAA girls tennis State Finals. Its previous semi-state titles came in 2010 and 2016. CN also qualified for the State Finals in 1980 and 1981 prior to a semi-state round being added into the tournament series in 1982.
