Columbus North freshman Ashlie Wilson was named Most Valuable Player of the Bull Dogs’ 2019 girls’ tennis team at the team awards program on Wednesday (June 5).
Wilson, who posed a 22-5 record at No. 1 singles, was one of numerous athletes to receive recognition at the gathering in the Columbus North cafeteria. Wilson’s efforts helped propel Columbus North to a 22-5 team record and a berth in the IHSAA team State Finals.
Others cited with top awards were senior Shweta Srinivasan, freshman Tiffany Fu, senior Servane Cloteaux, junior Ali Bergman and junior Cassidy May.
Srinivasan, who finished with a 16-9 overall record while playing No. 3 singles, No. 1 doubles and No. 2 doubles, was presented the Bull Dog Award.
Fu, who posted a 24-2 overall record while playing No. 3 singles, No. 1 doubles and No. 2 doubles, received the Sportsmanship/Mental Attitude Award. In addition, Cloteaux and junior Paige Bishop were recognized for sportsmanship at the varsity level. Also, freshman Anushka Nair, junior Ally Parker and sophomore Shivali Singireddy were recognized for sportsmanship at the JV level.
Cloteaux, Bergman and May were named Most Improved Players at the varsity level. Cloteaux was 21-5 while playing No. 1 doubles and No. 2 doubles. Bergman was 13-10 while playing No. 1 doubles and No. 2 doubles. May was 4-0 in varsity matches and 15-4 in JV matches.
At the JV level, sophomore Saanvikha Saravanan, freshman Kenzie Acton and Singireddy were most improved players. Saravanan was 13-1, Acton 7-1 and Singireddy 13-1 in JV matches.
Wilson, Fu, May, Srinivasan, sophomore Jaline Tay, sophomore Lauren Hartwell and freshman Sydney Cooper earned Bull Dog Pride awards. Also, Fu, Bishop, Parker, junior Erica Song, freshman Leah George and freshman Shenyi Gong collected Bull Dog Support awards.
Earlier, Wilson, Chevalier, Bergman and Tay were named first-team all-District 8 by the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association and first-team all-Conference Indiana.
Also, coach Kendal Hammel was named District 8 Coach of the Year.
Cloteaux previously was named IHSTeCA first-team Academic All-State, while Srinivasan was chosen IHSTeCA honorable mention Academic All-State. And the Columbus North team earned “team Academic All-State” recognition with a 4.15 collective grade-point average.
Juniors Eva Chevalier and Paige Bishop were honored as team captions. They were joined as varsity letterwinners by seniors Servane Cloteaux and Shweta Srinivasan; juniors Ali Bergman, Mariana Martinez and Cassidy May; sophomore Jaline Tay; and freshmen Tiffany Fu and Ashlie Wilson.
JV award winners were juniors Ally Parker, Delilah Perry, Kate Riordan, Erica Song and Grace Wang; sophomores Purbi Das, Lauren Hartwell, Soumya Paliwal, Saanvikha Saravanan, Shivali Singiready and Trisha Yerragudi; and freshmen Kenzie Acton, Alagappan, Radhika Chandrasekharan, Sydney Cooper, Leah George, Shenyi Gong, Arya Gotoh, Tanya Iyer, Chaewon Lee, Anushka Nair, Juhi Patel, Sanjana Penmathsa and Anisha Vuligonda.
