April 30, 2021 - With a great win over second-ranked North Oldham (KY) earlier in the week, and potential matchups against three state-ranked opponents on Saturday (May 1) at the Avon Invitational, head coach Kendal Hammel’s girls tennis team had to guard against a letdown when traveling to Seymour to take on the Owls on Friday afternoon. The visiting Bull Dogs were up to the task, despite windy conditions, and kept their perfect dual meet record intact with a 4-1 victory.
Ashlie Wilson made quick work of her match at number one singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Kathryn Wilson’s match was over almost as quickly as she also won 6-0, 6-0. The number one doubles team of Jaline Tay and Tiffany Fu then posted a 6-0, 6-2 victory to seal the team scoring decision. Arya Gotoh ran the team score to 4-0 with a hard-fought 6-7, 6-4, 10-8 decision at the number three singles match. Seymour was able to get on the board at the number two doubles, defeating Leah George and Sydney Cooper 7-6, 6-7, 10-8 to prevent the shutout.
The Bull Dog reserves also won 10-of-13 matches over the host Owls.
The Avon Invitational gets underway at 8:30 am Saturday.
