18 Columbus North athletes, one coach honored in winter sports by Conference Indiana

                Fourteen athletes from Columbus North High School earned first-team all-Conference Indiana honors in the six winter sports of 2016-17.

                In addition, four other CNHS athletes were chosen as honorable mention all-conference.

                The school also had one woman recognized as a Conference Indiana Coach of the Year – Sandy Freshour as co-Coach of the Year in gymnastics.

                Athletes in boys basketball and girls basketball were selected following a vote of conference coaches on Thursday, March 9.

                Athletes in gymnastics, boys swimming, girls swimming and wrestling have known of their selections since the conference meet earlier in the winter because accolades in those sports are based on performance in those events.

                Coach of the Year awards were determined by a vote of conference coaches in all sports.

                A list of Columbus North’s 2016-17 winter sport all-conference honorees follows.

                >> Girls Basketball – Imani Guy, Maliah Howard-Bass. Honorable mention: Ashlyn Huffman, Kenzie Patberg.

                >> Gymnastics – Sami Heathcote, Ashley Holliday, Claire Thompson.

                >> Boys Swimming – Thomas Goble, Kaemon Jiles, Evan Patterson, Angel Torres Martinez, Adam Zhuang.

                >> Girls Swimming – Darby Coles, Olivia Morlok.

                >> Wrestling – Andrew Chapman.

Athletes and coaches from Conference Indiana high schools have been recognized with the 2016-17 winter all-conference honors.
Athletes in boys’ basketball and girls’ basketball were selected following a vote of conference coaches on Thursday (March 9).
Athletes in boys swimming, girls swimming, gymnastics and wrestling have known of their selections since the conference meets earlier in the winter because accolades in those sports are based on performance in those events.
Coach of the Year awards were determined by a vote of conference coaches in all sports.
Those voted as Coach of the Year were J.R. Holmes of Bloomington South in boys’ basketball; Mike Armstrong of Perry Meridian in girls’ basketball; Matt Schoettle of Perry Meridian in wrestling; Sandy Freshour of Columbus North and Leisa Jones of Bloomington South in gymnastics; and Phil Cole and Kandis Looze of Bloomington South as co-honorees in boys’ swimming and girls’ swimming.
