Columbus North has been declared the 2021 Conference Indiana champion in gymnastics.
The conference meet was scheduled for Feb. 15, but the event was snowed out and not rescheduled.
After a meeting of CI athletic directors on Tuesday (Feb. 23), it was declared that Columbus North was champion, Bloomington North was runner-up and Bloomington South placed third based on results of head-to-head meetings earlier in the season between the three schools.
Those are the only three CI schools that field a gymnastics team.
“We obviously would have rather had the meet and competed, but due to weather and other complications, we couldn’t make it happen,” Columbus North coach Betsy Warble told The Republic.
Columbus North returns to action at 7 p.m. Friday (Feb. 26) when it competes in the Columbus East Sectional. Other teams in the sectional are Bloomington North, Bloomington South, Columbus East, Decatur Cental, Edgewood, Franklin Central, Indianapolis Lutheran, Indianapolis Scecina, Martinsville, Owen Valley, Roncalli and Seymour.
The top three teams in the sectional advance to the Columbus East Regional at 1 p.m. Saturday (March 7). In additional, top-six place winners in each event qualify to the regional if her respective team does not advance.
