Flemmons, Vincent help Columbus North rally past Whiteland 65-56 in boys basketball

                COLUMBUS, Ind. – Senior Jaylen Flemmons poured in 27 points and grabbed eight rebounds Saturday night (Jan. 27) to led the Columbus North boys basketball team to a 65-56 victory over Whiteland in Memorial Gym.

                Senior Trey Vincent contributed 21 points and four rebounds for the Bull Dogs, who used a big fourth quarter to improve to 10-6 for the season. Freshman Blake Barker chipped in six points, while senior Bailey Hester and juniors Trenton Kelley and Patrick McKInley each netted three points.

                Juniors Brennan Neal and Carter Crowe each scored 20 points for the Warriors (6-9).

                Whiteland jumped to a 19-10 lead at the first stop, but the Bull Dogs countered to trail just 29-27 at intermission. The Warriors maintained a two-point edge at the end of the third quarter, but CN used a 24-13 advantage over the final eight minutes to take the decision.

                Flemmons went 11-of-14 on free throws while Vincent was 9-of-10 from the line in a key aspect of the outcome. For the game, the Bull Dogs were 26-of-33 on free throws while the Warriors were 11-of-12.

                Columbus North won both sub-varsity contests.

                In the JV game, junior Blake King sank six 3-pointers en route to a game-high 20 points in leading the Bull Dogs to a 70-37 triumph. Sophomore Nicholas Schiavello contributed 17 points, while freshman Reese Harmon had eight points for CN (13-0). Junior Cameron Ziegler and sophomore Casper Clark each added seven points. Brady Reed paced the Warriors with 18 points.

                At the freshman level, Preston Terrell and Austin Bode each scored 13 points as Columbus North eased past the Warriors 51-34. Jakub Trusina added eight points while Max Wilson and Braden Taylor each had four points for the Bull Dogs (11-2). Jacob Dunlap tossed in a game-best 20 points for Whiteland.

                Columbus North returns to action on Thursday (Feb. 1) when it visits Hamilton Southeastern. The JV game begins at 6 p.m., and the varsity follows at 7:30 p.m. There will be no freshman game that night.

                The CN freshman team host Bloomington South at 6 p.m. Monday (Jan. 29) in the Auxiliary Gym.
