Bloomington South boys basketball edges Columbus North 75-69 in overtime

                BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Grayson Rolen scored a game-high 19 points, including 4-of-4 free throws in overtime and 10-of-10 charities overall, to lead the Bloomington South boys basketball team to a 75-69 decision over visiting Columbus North.

                Noah Jager added 16 points and nine assists for the Panthers, who improved to 18-3 overall and clinched the Conference Indiana championship at 5-0. Jordan Meeks chipped in 13 points, while Connor Hickman tallied 11 points and Anthony Leal netted 10 points for the home team.

                Senior Patrick McKinley scored 17 points to pace Columbus North (14-5, 3-1). Junior Nicholas Schiavello contributed 16 points, while sophomore Reese Harmon provided 14 points and sophomore Blake Barker had 13 points. Also, senior Trenton Kelley netted nine points.

                Hickman scored nine points and Rolen tallied four points in the opening quarter as Bloomington South took a 17-10 lead. CN rallied for a 31-23 advantage at intermission as Harmon scored eight points, Schiavello netted six points and McKInley had five points.

                Jager scored 10 points and Rolen had seven points in the third quarter as the Panthers used a 23-12 blitz for a 46-43 edge at the third stop. Harmon scored six points, Schiavello netted four points and McKinley sank a game-tying 3-pointer late in the fourth quarter to force overtime with the game tied at 62.

                Rolen hit four free throws while Meeks scored three points and Leal, Jager and Adam Graham each scored two points in the extra frame to key the Panthers. CN countered with a deuce from McKinley, a 3-pointer from Barker and two free throws from Kelley, but it was not enough to pull out the contest.

                In the JV game, junior Will King and sophomore Jakub Trusina each scored 11 points to lift the Bull Dogs to a 44-39 triumph. Sophomore Max Wilson added eight points and sophomore Braden Taylor netted seven points for CN (11-5). Iago Rojas paced the Panthers with 11 points.

                Columbus North returns to action next Friday (Feb. 15) when it hosts Bloomington North in a CI doubleheader. The JV game begins at 6 p.m., and the varsity game follows at about 7:30 p.m. The Bull Dogs’ final home game of the regular season is Feb. 16 against Franklin.
