INDIANAPOLIS -- Juniors Audrey Lewis and Molly Rinehart were among the leaders Saturday (Sept. 4) as the Columbus North volleyball team went 3-0 to claim the championship of the North Central Invitational.
A 5-9 outside hitter, Lewis amassed 21 kills, 14 digs and four blocks over the matches to pace the Bull Dogs, who improved to 6-1 overall with victories over North Central (25-15, 25-23), Park Tudor (25-12, 23-25, 15-5) and Connersville (25-23, 25-19).
Rinehart, a 5-10 middle hitter, added 17 kills and eight blocks, while 5-10 junior right-side hitter Rachael Miller contributed nine kills, six service aces and 41-of-42 serving accuracy. In addition, senior Alex Reid netted 12 kills and a team-best 18 digs.
Sophomore setter Quin Shoultz directed the attack with 66 assists while adding 16 digs plus two blocks for the day. Junior defensive specialist Julie Reece also chipped in 13 digs, while Miller added six digs.
"Volleyball is a game of cooperation and communication," CN coach Megan Shaff said. "We're improving in those areas, and it showed in our performance. We played harder and more together, so this was a good day for us. It was a nice confidence booster."
The Bull Dogs return to action Tuesday (Sept. 7) at home against Pike in a Conference Indiana match. They also host Center Grove on Thursday (Sept. 9) in a non-conference action. Freshman and JV matches begin both days at 5:30 p.m., with the varsity to follow the JV match.
