BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Columbus North volleyball season came to an end Thursday night (Oct. 21) with a 3-0 loss to Class 4A No. 3 Columbus East in the first round of the Bloomington North Sectional.
Alicia Gosney totaled 12 kills and Mallory Loyd chipped in 11 as the Olympians (31-2) prevailed 25-15, 25-14, 25-12 and earned a spot in Saturday's sectional semifinals against host Bloomington North (24-5).
Junior Molly Rinehart paced Columbus North (19-15) with six kills, and senior Rachel Ozols had four.
Facing a highly rated rival in the sectional opener was a challenge, but Bull Dogs coach Megan Shaff said you have to play them sometime.
"The sectional has to go through East," Shaff told The Republic. "They can put the ball anywhere they want whenever they want. But we made them beat us. They are just really a good team. They are one of the best in the state."
Defensively, East's Shelby Holland had a match-best 11 digs, while teammates Courtney Ping and Ellyn Jones had eight and six, respectively. Senior Alex Reid and sophomore Quin Shoultz shared CN honors with five digs each.
