INDIANAPOLIS -- Senior Makinsey Summa pounded down 18 kills and sophomore Imani Guy tallied 17 kills over three matches Saturday (Sept. 6), leading the Columbus North volleyball team to the championship of the North Central Invitational.
The Bull Dogs defeated Connersville 25-17, 25-13 in the first-round of the four-team, round-robin event. They followed by knocking off Class 2A No. 9 Park Tudor 20-25, 25-23, 15-13 in the second round. CN closed the event by beating host North Central 18-25, 25-9, 15-8.
Senior Karen Wildemann, junior Avery Wendel and sophomore Maliah Howard-Bass each contributed 11 kills for the Bull Dogs (8-2), who played without senior Janelle Peters. Junior Anne Marie Kiel stepped up in Peters' absence to notch nine kills and three service aces.
Wildemann also produced seven aces, 60 assists and three block assists, while Summa had four block assists and Guy notched two block assists and one block solo.
Senior Alexa Pelley paced the back-row defense with 25 digs and added three aces. Senior Hannah Vittorio chipped in 17 digs, while senior Sarah Boldrey tallied 15 digs and junior Grace Sonderman had 14 digs and four aces.
Columbus North returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Southport in a Conference Indiana East Division match. JV and C Team matches begin at 6 p.m., and the varsity follows the JV about 7 p.m.
