BLOOMFIELD, Ind. -- Senior Makinsey Summa recorded 13 kills and three blocks over three matches Saturday (Aug. 23), leading the Columbus North volleyball team to the championship of the Eastern Greene Invitational.
The Bull Dogs swept past Eminence (25-5, 25-7), Sullivan (25-13, 25-19) and Eastern Greene (25-19, 25-15) with respective 2-0 wins to capture the four-team, round-robin event.
"We played very solid," said CN coach Caitlin Greiner, whose squad moved to 4-0 for the season. "We were able to stay focused and intense the whole day."
Senior Karen Wildemann contributed 36 assists, 10 kills, seven aces and 10 digs to the effort, while junior Avery Wendel produced nine kills.
Senior Alexa Pelley notched five aces, and junior Hannah McKinney had four aces.
Defensively, senior Hannah Vittorio posted 14 digs, while Pelley recorded 12 and McKinney had eight. On the front line, sophomore Imani Guy matched Summa with three blocks.
The Columbus North "C Team" also was in action Saturday. It competed in the Bloomington South freshman invitational, where it split a pair of matches. The Bull Dogs fell to Bloomington North 25-16, 25-20, but they rebounded to beat Brown County 25-12, 25-16. These were the C Team's first matches of the season.
Columbus North volleyball returns to action on Tuesday (Aug. 26) when it visits Perry Meridian in its first Conference Indiana East Division match of the season. JV and C Team matches begin at 6 p.m., and the varsity follows at about 7 p.m.
