Eight letterwinners featuring a six-pack of seniors return to lead the Columbus North volleyball team in 2014.
Setter Karen Wildemann, who recorded 650 assists, 96 kills, 234 digs and 46 aces en route to MVP honors, headlines the holdovers from a 13-21 squad that has high hopes for an improved season.
Middle hitter Makinsey Summa brings back a team-high 249 kills along with 83 digs, 23 aces and 53 blocks, while outside hitter Janelle Peters contributed 176 kills and 160 digs.

Over the summer, the Bull Dogs went undefeated in the Edinburgh Summer League to add to the optimism for the approaching season. CN defeated Edinburgh 2-0 and Hauser 2-1 to capture the championship of the Edinburgh Summer League Tournament. That title capped a spotless undefeated run through the league for the Bull Dogs, who earlier beat Hauser (2-0), Jennings County (2-0), Decatur Central (2-0), Edinburgh (2-0), Indian Creek (2-0) and Trinity Lutheran (2-1).
“I did not take stats for this tourney, but players who excelled were seniors Makinsey Summa, Janelle Peters and Alexa Pelley, junior Hannah McKinney and sophomore Maliah Howard-Bass,” CN coach Caitlin Greiner said in July. “This was a great league to compete in and see different girls playing different positions. Everyone played very well and worked hard throughout the entire league. It is an exciting start to what I see being a very exciting season.”
Other players who saw some varsity time last season are senior Sarah Boldrey plus juniors Grace Sonderman and junior Anne Marie Kiel. New to the varsity level are junior Hannah McKinney and sophomores Mackenzie Rooks, Hannah Weaver and Imani Guy.
CN opens its season at 7 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 21) against Shelbyville and follows by competing Saturday (Aug. 23) in the Eastern Greene Invitational.
Conference Indiana divisional matches are Aug. 26 at Perry Meridian, Sept. 9 against Southport and Sept. 16 against Franklin Central. The Bull Dogs host rival Columbus East on Oct. 2 and host the CI Tournament on Oct. 11.
