COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Senior Audrey Lewis produced eight kills and classmate Kasi Prohaska added seven Thursday evening (Sept. 29), but it wasn't enough as the Columbus North volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision at Class 4A No. 6 Columbus East.
Senior Molly Rinehart chipped in six kills for the Bull Dogs (10-11), who battled early but ultimately lost 25-22, 25-14, 25-13 at the Orange Pit. The Olympians improved to 15-4.
Senior libero Julie Reece produced a team-best 14 digs and Lewis had 10 to lead the CN defensive effort. Rinehart contributed three blocks, while junior Quin Shoultz provided nine digs and 21 assists.
Columbus East also won the JV and freshman matches in two sets each.
Freshman Makinsey Summa produced four kills and sophomore Katie Burbrink had two more as the Olympians prevailed 25-16, 25-16. Columbus North's JV falls to 11-8.
In the freshman match, Sheyanne Street had three kills while Taylor Stamper and Alivia Plumlee contributed three digs apiece in a 25-9, 25-14 setback. The CN freshman dropped to 5-8.
Columbus North returns to action Saturday (Oct. 1) in the Richmond Invitational. The Bull Dogs open against Fort Wayne North at 10:15 a.m. there. Later pool matches are against Class 3A No. 10 Batesville and Richmond. A cross-pool playoff will be against either Pendleton Heights, Franklin County, Marion or Dayton (Ohio) Thurgood Marshall.
