INDIANAPOLIS -- Senior Avery Wendel pounded down eight kills and added two blocks Tuesday evening (Sept. 8) to lead the Columbus North volleyball team to a 3-0 victory at Southport.
Juniors Hannah Weaver and Imani Guy each contributed six kills for the Bull Dogs, who improved to 4-6 overall and 1-1 in Conference Indiana East Division play by claiming the 25-19, 25-23, 25-17 decision.
Weaver also produced six service aces, while junior Maliah Howard-Bass notched three aces and a team-best 16 assists. Senior Hannah McKinney had 12 assists.
Junior Mackenzie Rooks paced the defense with eight digs, while Howard-Bass and McKinney each added six digs. Guy contributed to the front-line defense with three blocks.
For Southport, Tiana Wright led the Cardinals with five kills and two aces. Taylor Beaty contributed seven digs and two aces, while Emily Patrick notched 12 assists. The Cardinals fell to 0-2 in divisional matches.
Columbus North also won the JV match 2-1.
Freshman Lily Meyercord produced four kills, six aces and nine digs for the Bull Dogs' JV (3-4), which rallied to a 21-25, 25-20, 15-12 victory. Sophomore Katie McAninch, sophomore Hannah Worton and freshman Madi Beck each added four kills. Freshman Sophie McKinney had 13 assists, while Beck and sophomore Sidney Roese each notched six digs. Sophomore Emma Perry had 10 assists and three aces.
There was no freshman match.
Columbus North returns to action on Thursday (Sept. 10) when it visits Center Grove. JV and freshman matches are scheduled for 5:30 p.m., and the varsity will follow the JV about 6:45 p.m.
