NORTH VERNON, Ind. -- The Columbus North volleyball team went 2-1 on Saturday (Sept. 12) in the Jennings County Invitational, good for a tri-championship of the four-team round-robin event.
The Bull Dogs opened with a 25-6, 25-23 victory over Southwestern (Shelby). They followed with a 25-23, 25-22 triumph over Ben Davis. CN dropped its final match, a 27-25, 25-15 setback to the host Panthers.
Columbus North's record moved to 6-8 with the results.
Jennings County also went 2-1 for a share of the event crown. The Panthers lost to Ben Davis 17-25, 25-21, 15-11 and defeated Southwestern 25-15, 19-25, 15-8 before their win over Columbus North.
Ben Davis also went 2-1 in the invitational for the third piece of the title. The Giants defeated Jennings County and Southwestern (Shelby). The Spartans placed fourth with an 0-3 mark in the competition.
At the JV level, the Bull Dogs also went 2-1 for the day to move their season mark to 5-6. CN defeated Southwestern (Shelby) 25-12, 25-13 in its opener. It also topped Ben Davis 25-20, 25-21. The JV fell to Jennings County 23-25, 25-19, 15-4.
Columbus North returns to action on Tuesday (Sept. 15) when it visits Franklin Central for its final Conference Indiana East Division match with second-place in the division up for grabs. JV and freshman matches begin at 6 p.m., and the varsity will follow the JV about 7 p.m.
