INDIANAPOLIS -- Junior Maliah Howard-Bass recorded eight kills, 14 assists, 14 digs and two aces Tuesday (Sept. 15), but it was not enough as the Columbus North volleyball team lost 3-0 on the road at Franklin Central.
Senior Avery Wendel contributed six kills and two blocks for the Bull Dogs, who dropped to 6-9 overall and 1-2 in Conference Indiana East Division play with the 26-24, 25-21, 25-19 setback.
Franklin Central moved to 2-1 in CI divisional matches to claim second place; CN finished third in the division. Perry Meridian won the division, and Southport placed fourth.
Junior Imani Guy added five kills and four blocks for Columbus North. Junior Mackenzie Rooks tallied 10 digs, while senior Hannah McKinney notched nine digs, nine assists and two aces. Senior Grace Sonderman also had two aces.
Junior Haley Sobieralski paced the Flashes with seven kills. Elleanne Moore contributed 17 assists, while Erin Starks tallied 17 digs.
The teams split the sub-varsity matches. Franklin Central won the JV match 25-17, 25-22, while Columbus North took the freshman tilt 21-25, 25-17, 15-9.
Junior Jane Phillips and freshman Lily Meyercord each had two kills for the Bull Dogs' JV. Junior Madelin Johnson provided four assists, while Phillips notched two digs and sophomore Katie McAninch had two aces. The JV dropped to 5-7.
The CN freshmen improved to 3-4.
Columbus North returns to action on Thursday (Sept. 17) when it hosts Brownstown Central in a triple-header in Memorial Gym. The freshman match is at 5 p.m. The JV match will follow about 6 p.m. The varsity will conclude the event about 7 p.m.
