COLUMBUS, Ind. -- The Columbus North volleyball team started strong, but it was unable to keep the momentum as it dropped a 3-1 decision to visiting Brownstown Central on Senior Night.
The Braves rallied for an 18-25, 25-17, 25-9, 25-18 victory to improve to 11-7.
The Bull Dogs fell to 6-10 despite eight kills and five blocks from junior Imani Guy as well as eight kills from junior Hannah Weaver. Junior Maliah Howard-Bass contributed seven kills, 15 assists and 12 digs, while senior Hannah McKinney tallied 17 assists. Junior Mackenzie Rooks chipped in 11 digs.
McKinney and classmates Anne Marie Kiel, Chase Leslie, Emily Pollitt, Grace Sonderman, Olivia Teague and Avery Wendel were recognized in a pre-match ceremony.
Brownstown Central also swept the sub-varsity matches.
The visitors took a 25-17, 25-10 triumph in the JV match as Columbus North dropped to 5-8.
The Braves' "C" team knocked off the Columbus North freshman team 25-20, 25-14 in the opening match of the triple-header. Halley Woodruff had three kills and Jenna Fath notched four aces for the Bull Dogs (3-5).
All three Columbus North teams participate in tournaments on Saturday (Sept. 19). All three events begin at 9 a.m.
The CN varsity is in the Active Ankle Invitational at New Albany, where it will face New Albany, Jasper and Jeffersonville in pool-play matches. The final match will be against one of the following four teams -- Floyd Central, Brownstown Central, Castle or Silver Creek.
The Bull Dogs' JV competes in the Roncalli Invitational. That squad will meet Roncalli, Cathedral and Seymour in a four-team round-robin event.
The CN freshmen will take part in the Bloomington North Invitational. The rookies will play Whiteland, Bloomington North and Columbus East in a four-team round-robin competition.
