MARTINSVILLE, Ind. -- Junior Maliah Howard-Bass posted eight kills, 12 assists, two aces and 10 digs Thursday evening (Sept. 24), but it was not enough as the Columbus North volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision at Martinsville.
Junior Imani Guy added seven kills while freshman Agustina Fainguerch contributed four kills and two blocks as the Artesians prevailed 25-13, 26-24, 20-25, 25-18.
Junior Hannah Weaver provided three kills, two aces and two blocks for the Bull Dogs (8-13), while senior Grace Sonderman tallied two aces and senior Hannah McKinney notched 11 assists. Junior Mackenzie Rooks paced the defense with 20 digs, and freshman Maddy Sebahar produced 14 digs.
Martinsville all took the JV match, taking a 25-23, 25-21 victory. Sophomore Katie McAninch tallied three kills and three aces for the Bull Dogs (5-12), while freshman Lily Meyercord had two kills, three assists and four digs. Junior Madelin Johnson notched six assists, while sophomore Sidney Roese had two aces and six digs. Junior Jane Phillips provided four digs.
There was no freshman match.
The Columbus North varsity returns to action on Saturday (Sept. 26) when it competes in the Muncie Central Invitational. The Bull Dogs face Class 4A No. 12 Muncie Central, 4A No. 8 Elkhart Memorial and 2A No. 6 Wapahani in their three pool-play matches. Their final match will be against either 3A No. 1 Yorktown, 3A No. 11 Mishawaka Marian, McCutcheon or Lawrence North.
All three Columbus North teams will visit Columbus East next Thursday (Oct. 1). The freshman match starts at 5:30, followed by the JV about 6:30 and the varsity about 7:30 p.m.
