COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Junior Cortney VanLiew pounded down 20 kills and senior Katie Mack contributed 19 kills and 15 digs Thursday evening (Oct. 1) as the Columbus East volleyball team posted a 3-0 victory over visiting Columbus North.
Senior Kortney Thalls and junior Bailey Western each added 14 kills for the Class 4A No. 11 Olympians, who prevailed 25-14, 25-16, 25-6 in the Orange Pit to improve their record to 16-4.
Western also tallied three blocks, while junior A.J. Pollert produced 11 digs and sophomore Kendal Williams had 28 assists.
Junior Imani Guy paced the Bull Dogs (8-18) with five kills and five blocks. Senior Avery Wendel and junior Maliah Howard-Bass chipped in four kills apiece, while junior Mackenzie Rooks had 12 digs.
Columbus East also swept the sub-varsity matches.
At the JV level, the Olympians won 25-14, 25-10. In the freshman match, East won 25-11, 25-14.
The Columbus North JV now is 5-13, while the Bull Dogs' freshman squad is 4-8.
Columbus North returns to action on Tuesday (Oct. 6) with a home match against Bloomington South. The JV match is at 6 p.m., and the varsity follows about 7 p.m. The freshman match has been canceled.
