McKinney recognized as MVP of 2015 Columbus North volleyball

            Senior Hannah McKinney was chosen MVP of the Columbus North volleyball team at the squad’s season-ending banquet on Tuesday (Nov. 17) in the CN Cafeteria.

            McKinney, a 5-6 setter, helped the Bull Dogs to a 10-22 overall record in 2015.

            Freshman Maddy Sebahar was winner of the Bull Dog Award, while freshman Agustina Fainguersch was chosen the Most Improved Player at the varsity level.

Other special awards went to senior Grace Sonderman, senior Chase Leslie, freshman Andrea Corbeels, sophomore Sidney Roese, sophomore Hannah Worton, freshman Sophie McKinney and freshman Lydia Hammons.

            Sonderman and Leslie were co-winners of the Jolie Crider Award for upperclassman mental attitude.

            Corbeels was honored as the Casey Cooley Award winner for underclassman mental attitude, while Roese was chosen MVP of the junior varsity team and Worton was the JV’s Most Improved Player. Sophie McKinney was MVP of the Freshman Team, and Hammons was the Most Improved Player for the Freshman Team.

            Earlier, Guy was voted first team all-Conference Indiana, while Hannah McKinney was selected honorable mention all-conference.

            Also, Sonderman was selected first-team Academic All-State by the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association. In addition, Rooks was cited after her selection as a South Junior All-Star by the ICGSA.

            Fourteen players received varsity letters. They included seniors Anne Marie Kiel, Chase Leslie, Hannah McKinney, Emily Pollitt, Grace Sonderman, Olivia Teague and Avery Wendel; juniors Imani Guy, Maliah Howard-Bass, Madelin Johnson, Mackenzie Rooks and Hannah Weaver; and freshmen Agustina Fainguersch and Maddy Sebahar.

            Recognized as JV players were juniors Meredith Kirts, Mallory Renner and Kennedy Staggs; sophomores Sarah Hull, Katie McAninch, Emma Perry, Sidney Roese and Hannah Worton; and freshmen Madi Beck, Andrea Corbeels, Lily Meyercord and Falesha Ronsheim.

            Those recognized as Freshman Team players were Jenna Fath, Sedona Goebel, Lydia Hammons, Natalie Lucas, Sophie McKinney, Thais Oehninger, Alyona Rosenthal and Halley Woodruff.
