Girls Varsity Volleyball
COLUMBUS, Ind. – Junior Agustina Fainguersch produced 19 kills and 26 digs Tuesday (Aug. 29), leading the Columbus North volleyball team to a 3-2 victory over Bloomington North in a Conference Indiana match.
Senior Katie McAninch and junior Lauryn James each added seven kills and sophomore Gabby Genth provided five kills as the Bull Dogs took the 13-25, 25-17, 22-25, 25-21, 15-12 decision.
Junior Lily Meyercord totaled 31 assists and 14 digs, while junior Maddy Sebahar posted a team-best 32 digs. Also, sophomore Carley Finke and Emma Tynan notched 14 digs and 13 digs, respectively.
“It was a hard-fought match,” said CN coach Caitlin Greiner, whose squad improved to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in CI matches. “Bloomington North is a very scrappy team that served tough. We came out not ready to play, and they were able to get big runs on us early.
“Game 2 we picked up our intensity, and it carried through the rest of the match. My girls showed their mental and physical toughness by not giving up and making adjustments as the match progressed. It was a good win for us to build on.”
Columbus North swept the sub-varsity contests.
The Bull Dogs claimed a 25-21, 21-25, 15-4 triumph in the JV match, improving to 4-1.
In the freshman match, Addie Risley tallied five kills and Alexa McKinley had four kills as the CN rookies (2-4) prevailed 17-25, 25-24, 15-10. Ava McKinney provided 14 assists, while Emma Derringer and Alyse Pardue each pinpointed five service aces.
The Columbus North varsity and JV return to action Saturday (Sept. 2) in the North Central Invitational. The varsity faces North Central at 9 a.m., Park Tudor at 11 a.m. and Connersville at 1 p.m. The JV will meet North Central at 10 a.m. and Connersville at noon.
