INDIANAPOLIS – Junior Agustina Fainguersch recorded 14 kills and three blocks Tuesday evening (Sept. 12), but it was not enough as the Columbus North volleyball team lost 3-1 at Franklin Central.
The Flashes prevailed 25-22, 21-25, 25-21, 25-12 to improve to 8-5 overall and 3-3 in Conference Indiana. The Bull Dogs fell to 9-4 and 3-1.
Junior Lily Meyercord contributed five kills, 29 assists and three aces for CN. Sophomore Emma Tynan tallied seven kills and four blocks, while senior Katie McAninch notched six kills.
Junior Maddy Sebahar paced the back-row defense with 25 digs, while sophomore Gabby Genth chipped in four blocks.
“Franklin Central came out with intensity more quickly than we did,” CN coach Caitlin Greiner said. “Unforced errors and too many dropped balls on defense allowed FC to make runs late in games. FC is a good-serving team and took us out of our offense.”
The Flashes also swept the sub-varsity matches.
FC took a 25-19, 25-15 decision at the JV level, the Bull Dogs falling to 9-3).
The hosts prevailed 23-25, 25-22, 15-8 in the freshman match, the CN rookies dropping to 3-5.
Columbus North returns to action on Thursday (Sept. 14) when it hosts Brownstown Central. JV and freshman matches begin at 6 p.m., and the varsity follows the JV about 7 p.m.
The CN varsity competes Saturday (Sept. 16) in the Ultra Ankle Challenge at New Albany starting at 10 a.m. The Bull Dogs’ JV is in the Roncalli Invitational beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday. The freshman team was to be in an invitational at Brown County, but that event has been canceled.
