Girls Varsity Volleyball
COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus North volleyball team went 1-1 on Saturday (Oct. 6) in Conference Indiana matches against Terre Haute North and Terre Haute South in Memorial Gym.
The results moved the Bull Dogs to 9-17 overall and to third place in league play at 3-2.
Junior Gabby Genth pounded down 18 kills, while seniors Agustina Fainguersch and Lauryn James each tallied nine kills as Columbus North fell 3-1 to Terre Haute North.
Junior Emma Tynan added eight kills, two blocks and 12 digs, while senior Lily Meyercord totaled 46 assists as CN dropped the 13-25, 25-15, 25-22, 25-20 decision. Fainguersch and freshman Emma Bennett each chipped in three blocks, and senior Maddy Sebahar had 30 digs.
Later, the Bull Dogs bounced by with a 3-0 victory over Terre Haute South.
Genth tallied seven kills while Fainguersch and junior Lauren Opalka each provided six kills in the 25-18, 25-8, 25-12 triumph. Meyercord had 13 assists, while senior Sophie McKinney provided five aces and 11 assists.
Sebahar paced the back-row defense with 25 digs and Fainguersch added 14 digs.
At the JV level, the Bull Dogs dropped a pair of 2-1 decisions to finish their season at 9-11.
Sophomore Alexa McKinley had six kills and three aces as CN fell 17-25, 25-20, 15-10 to Terre Haute North. Sophomore Holly Linn added four aces, while freshman Reagan Kane had 17 assists and 12 digs.
Sophomore Madi Roop notched 11 kills and three blocks as the Bull Dogs dropped a 25-24, 20-25, 15-9 decision to Terre Haute South. Kane provided 17 assists, while McKinley and freshman Sydney Cooper each had two aces. Sophomore Ava McKinney notched 10 digs, and sophomore Kathryn Rayburn had nine digs.
The Columbus North varsity returns to action at 11 a.m. next Saturday (Oct. 13) in the semifinals of the Bloomington South Sectional. The Bull Dogs will face the winner of a first-round match on Thursday (Oct. 11) between Columbus East and East Central.
