Bloomington South volleyball beats Columbus North 3-0 in sectional final; Bull Dogs outlast East Central 3-2 in semifinal

                BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Freshman Molly Mungle, junior Haley Davidson and sophomore Kenadee Coyle each produced set-ending kills Saturday evening (Oct. 13) to lift the Bloomington South volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over Columbus North for the championship of the Bloomington South Sectional.

                The Bull Dogs fought as hard as they could, but the host Panthers claimed a 25-20, 25-12, 25-22 decision for their second consecutive sectional trophy and the program’s 15th sectional crown. Mungle had a kill to end the first set. Davidson had a tip-kill to finish the second set. Coyle pounded a kill off a block to conclude the match.

                Bloomington South improved to 22-11 with the triumph and earned a spot in the Bloomington North Regional next Saturday (Oct. 20). There, the Panthers will play Castle (34-1) in the second semifinal. Providence (31-2) and Center Grove (28-6) will meet in the 10 a.m. opener. The regional final will be at 7:30 p.m. next Saturday.

                Junior Emma Tynan produced nine kills while seniors Agustina Fainguersch and Lauryn James each tallied five kills for Columbus North, which saw its season end at 10-18. Freshman Sarah Bennett and senior Lily Meyercord each had four blocks, while Meyercord added 17 assists. Senior Maddy Sebahar paced the back-row defense with 18 digs.

                Earlier in a sectional semifinal, Tynan recorded 20 kills, two service aces and 40 digs to lead the Bull Dogs to a 3-2 victory over East Central. Junior Gabby Genth added 10 kills, three blocks and eight digs as CN hung tough to take the 25-19, 25-18, 24-26, 19-25, 15-13 decision.

                Bloomington South defeated Bloomington North 25-18, 25-21, 25-17 in the other semifinal.

                In the CN-East Central match, Bennett contributed 10 kills and six digs, while Fainguerch provided eight kills and 35 digs for Columbus North.

                James chipped in seven kills and six blocks, while Meyercord notched six kills, 47 assists, two aces and 22 digs. Also, Sebahar tallied a team-high 45 digs and junior Jalynn Reardon had 13 digs.

                East Central ended its season at 31-3. Bloomington North closed 10-18.
