Girls Varsity Volleyball
Senior Maddy Sebahar was recognized as MVP of the 2018 Columbus North volleyball team at the squad’s season-ending gathering on Monday (Nov. 19) in the CNHS Cafeteria.
Sebahar, a 5-3 libero, totaled 466 digs, 15 service aces and 36 assists in helping the Bull Dogs to a 10-18 record that included a 3-2 mark and third-place finish in Conference Indiana. Sebahar’s season also include a school-record for digs in a match – 45 against East Central in the sectional semifinal.
Sebahar was the team MVP for the second consecutive season.
Sebahar also was named winner of the Bull Dog Award, while other honors went to freshman Sarah Bennett, senior Andrea Corbeels, sophomore Madi Roop, freshman Reagan Kane, sophomore Madison White, freshman Sydney Donica, freshman Nya Davis and freshman Olivia Pittman.
Bennett was chosen most improved player for the varsity, while Corbeels was the winner of the Jolie Crider Award for upperclassman mental attitude. Roop was the recipient of the Casey Cooley Award for underclassman mental attitude.
Bennett, a middle hitter, totaled 58 kills and 44 blocks. Corbeels, a middle hitter, tallied 14 kills and three blocks. Roop excelled as a middle hitter for the JV team that posted a 9-11 record.
Kane was chosen MVP of the JV team, while White was honored as the most improved player on the JV team. Donica was cited as MVP of the freshman team that went 2-11. Davis and Pittman were co-winners of the most improved award for the freshman team.
Earlier, Sebahar and senior Agustina Fainguersch were voted first-team all-Conference Indiana and junior Emma Tynan was selected honorable mention all-conference. Fainguersch totaled 141 kills, 24 aces, 33 blocks and 224 digs. Tynan tallied a team-best 189 kills plus 22 aces, 22 blocks and 241 digs.
In addition, Corbeels, Fainguersch, Sebahar and senior Lily Meyercord were recognized as Academic All-State by the Indiana High School Volleyball Coaches Association. Honorees must have a 3.5 grade-point average or better on a 4.0 scale, plus either an 1100 or better on the SAT or a 24 or better on the ACT.
Sebahar, Fainguersch, Meyercord, Tynan and junior Gabby Genth all were recognized as team captains.
Thirteen players received varsity letters. They included seniors Andrea Corbeels, Agustina Fainguersch, Lauryn James, Sophie McKinney, Lily Meyercord and Maddy Sebahar; juniors Carley Finke, Gabby Genth, Lauren Opalka, Jalynn Reardon, Emma Tynan and Kate Whaley; and freshman Sarah Bennett.
Recognized as JV players were sophomores Emma Derringer, Reagan Kane, Holly Linn, Alexa McKinley, Ava McKinney, Alyse Pardue, Kathryn Rayburn, Addie Risley, Madi Roop and Madison White.
Those recognized as Freshman Team players were Grace Chapman, Sydney Cooper, Sydney Donica, Nya Davis, Emma Martin, Nicole Meza, Paige Osbourne, Olivia Pittman, Delaney Roxbury, Grace Whaley and Samantha Wilkinson.
