Seymour defeats Columbus North 3-0 in volleyball season opener

                COLUMBUS, Ind. – Freshman Olivia Fish pounded down 14 kills and sophomore Maggie Connell added 10 kills Tuesday evening (Aug. 20), leading the Seymour volleyball team to a 3-0 season-opening victory over Columbus North in Memorial Gym.

                Fish and sophomore Hayley Harpe each provided two service aces, while Harpe contribute 31 assists as the Owls claimed a 25-21, 25-18, 25-14 decision. Senior Sophia Stahl tallied four blocks and freshman Cali Cummings had three blocks to pace the front-line defense. Sophomore Jayla Gambrel notched 11 digs and senior Chloe Criswell had nine digs to lead the visitors’ back-row effort.

                Senior Emma Tynan tallied seven kills while junior Madi Roop notched four kills and senior Gabby Genth had three kills to lead the Columbus North offense. Senior Carley Finke and sophomore Sydney Cooper each provided one ace, while senior Kate Whaley delivered 10 assists and sophomore Reagan Kane had six assists.

                Genth totaled four blocks and junior Madison White chipped in three blocks.Senior Jaylynn Reardon paced the back-row defense with 15 digs. Finke contributed seven digs, while Tynan and Kane each had six digs and junior Ava McKinney provided five digs.

                The Bull Dogs won the JV match 25-23, 18-25, 15-13. Sophomore Sydney Donica, sophomore Logan Branstetter and freshman Rylie Boezeman each recorded three kills for the Bull Dogs. Freshman Harley Anderson provided five aces, while freshman Emma Burns produced seven assists and sophomore Emma Martin had two assists. Sophomore Grace Chapman tallied 14 digs and freshman Elizabeth Rayburn netted 11 digs.

                Columbus North returns to action on Thursday (Aug. 22) when it visits Shelbyville. The JV match begins at 6 p.m., and the varsity match follows at about 7:15 p.m.
