Girls Varsity Volleyball
SHELBYVILLE, Ind. – Junior Madison White produced 10 kills and four blocks on Thursday evening (Aug. 22), leading the Columbus North volleyball team to a 3-0 victory at Shelbyville.
Junior Madi Roop chipped in seven kills while senior Emma Tynan had six kills as the Bull Dogs improved to 1-1 with the 25-17, 25-17, 25-17 triumph. Senior Lauren Opalka and sophomore Sarah Bennett each provided five kills, while senior Carley Finke, senior Kate Whaley, senior Jalynn Reardon and sophomore Reagan Kane had one service ace apiece.
Kane totaled 13 assists while Whaley had 10 assists.
Roop, Tynan and senior Gabby Genth each tallied two blocks. Reardon paced the back-row defense with 21 digs. Whaley contributed 16 digs, while Finke and junior Ava McKInney each had 11 digs.
The host Golden Bears fell to 1-1 for the season.
“We served very aggressively and took Shelbyville out of its offense,” CN coach Caitlin Greiner said. “Defensively, our back row really stepped up and kept several balls alive. All our hitters were effective at times. It was a great team effort and big jump from our play on Tuesday (in the season-opener against Seymour).”
In the JV match, Shelbyville claimed a 25-11, 25-20 decision. Freshman Emma Burns tallied three assists while sophomore Emma Martin had two assists for the Bull Dogs (1-1). Sophomore Sydney Donica provided one ace.
Columbus North returns to action on Tuesday (Aug. 27) when it hosts Perry Meridian in Memorial Gym. The JV match will begin at 6 p.m., and the varsity match will follow at about 7:15 p.m.
