Girls Varsity Volleyball
MARTINSVILLE, Ind. – Sophomore Mackenzie Martin pounded 22 kills and senior Marlayna Kemp contributed 14 kills on Thursday (Sept. 5), leading the Martinsville volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over Columbus North in John Wooden Gymnasium.
Senior Paige Dorsett chipped in nine kills for the Artesians, who improved to 7-3 for the season with the 25-21, 25-18, 23-25, 25-23 triumph. Martin added four service aces, while sophomore Grace Reynolds provided 49 assists. Freshman Molly Urban posted 23 digs, while Martin had 17 digs and Reynolds tallied 12 digs.
Senior Emma Tynan paced the Bull Dogs (2-4) with 11 kills. Sophomore Sarah Bennett added five kills, while juniors Madison White and Madi Roop each tallied three kills.
Sophomore Reagan Kane chipped in two aces and 18 assists. White paced the front-row defense with six blocks, while, Roop, Tynan and senior Gabby Genth each had two blocks.
Senior Jalynn Reardon totaled 15 digs, while senior Kate Whaley had 12 digs and Tynan tallied 11 digs.
At the JV level, the Artesians captured a 25-24, 19-25, 15-13 decision. Junior Addie Risley and sophomore Sydney Donica each posted eight kills for the Bull Dogs (2-4). Freshman Harley Anderson contributed five aces, while freshman Emma Burns had 14 assists. Sophomore Grace Chapman provided 16 digs and freshman Elizabeth Rayburn had nine digs.
Columbus North returns to action on Saturday (Sept. 7) when it competes in the North Central Invitational. The varsity faces North Central at 9 a.m., Park Tudor at 11 a.m. and Pendleton Heights at 1 p.m. in the four-team, round-robin-event. The JV plays North Central at 10 a.m. and Park Tudor at noon.
