Girls Varsity Volleyball
COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Bloomington South volleyball team posted a 3-0 victory over Columbus North on Tuesday evening (Oct. 8) in Memorial Gym.
The Panthers improved to 16-9 overall and clinched the Conference Indiana championship at 5-0 with the 25-21, 25-22, 25-19 decision.
Senior Emma Tynan tallied a team-best 10 kills for the Bull Dogs, who fell to 7-14 overall and 1-2 in league play. Junior Madison White added six kills, while junior Madi Roop provided six kills, five digs and one block.
Senior Gabby Genth chipped in four kills and one block, while sophomore Reagan Kane produced 22 assists, eight digs, two service aces and one block. Sophomore Sydney Cooper had a team-best 22 digs.
Senior Olivia Blacketter led Bloomington South with nine kills and six blocks. Sophomore Molly Mungle added seven kills, two aces and nine digs, while junior Kenadee Coyle provided six kills, two aces, four blocks and nine digs.
Senior Haley Davidson also had six killls with four aces and nine digs, while junior setter Bailey DeMier totaled four kills, four blocks, six digs and 27 assists for the Panthers. Freshman Cadence Ast chipped in six blocks, and senior Hannah Miller tallied a team-best 13 digs.
The match was a preview of a first-round sectional match when the Bull Dogs must face Bloomington South again. That match will be at 6 p.m. next Thursday, Oct. 17 at Bloomington North.
At the JV level, the Panthers claimed a 25-13, 25-18 triumph. Freshman Logan Branstetter tallied three kills and classmate Alaina Baker had two kills for the Bull Dogs (5-11). Freshman Emma Burns netted four assists and sophomore Emma Martin had three assists. Martin and sophomore Sydney Donica each provided one ace.
Columbus North returns to action on Thursday (Oct. 10) when it hosts Franklin. The JV match begins at 6 p.m., and the varsity follows about 7:15 p.m. The Bull Dogs close their regular season on Saturday (Oct. 12) when they travel to Terre Haute South for their final CI matches against Terre Haute North and Terre Haute South.
