Greiner resigns as Columbus North volleyball coach

Caitlin Greiner has resigned as varsity coach of Columbus North volleyball.

Greiner guided the Bull Dogs to a 102-147 record over eight seasons, including an 18-26 slate in Conference Indiana. Columbus North posted an 8-17 record and 2-3 league finish in 2019.

During her tenure with the Bull Dogs, Greiner was named a winner of the 2018 Jack Cramer Ideals of Athletic Competition Award. That award is presented annually by the Columbus Parks & Recreation Department in memory of Cramer, a former Columbus athlete who passed away in 1978. Criteria for the award include dedication, preparation, determination, fair play, sportsmanship and on-field achievements.

Greiner is a 2004 graduate of Columbus East High School, where she played volleyball and basketball for the Olympians. In volleyball, playing under maiden name of Caitlin Watts, she was a three-time all-Hoosier Hills Conference sectional, a three-time All-Area selection, a two-time All-Area Player of the Year and an all-state selection as a senior. Greiner went on to play three seasons of NCAA Division I volleyball, two years at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and one year at Indiana University.

Prior to taking over the Columbus North program, Greiner was an assistant coach for one season at Columbus East and coached for five seasons in the Bloomington-based Hoosierland Volleyball Club. In Columbus, she helped form the Columbus North Volleyball Club in 2011 and the Columbus Volleyball Academy in 2017.

Greiner was the ninth coach in the history of Columbus North volleyball. Nancy Schroeder was the program’s first coach in the 1977 and 1978 seasons. She was followed by Cheri Weinheimer for four seasons, John Winchester for two seasons, Sara Wasmuth for four seasons, LuAnn Davis for two seasons, Weinheimer a second time for eight seasons, Greg Morris for four seasons, Terry Sweasy for four seasons and Megan Shaff for seven seasons.

Anyone interested in the position should contact Columbus North athletic director Jeff Hester. He can be reached in the Columbus North athletic office.
