Girls Varsity Volleyball
Columbus North seniors Emma Derringer, Ava McKinney, Madi Roop and Madison White each has been named Academic All-State by the Indiana High School Volleyball Coaches Association.
The four seniors have helped the Bull Dogs to a 9-21 record so far this season, including a victory over East Central in the first round of the Columbus East Sectional. The team returns to action at 11 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 17) when it faces Martinsville (18-9) in a semifinal match.
Players must be a senior and have a 3.5 grade-point average or higher on a 4.0 scale to be eligible for IHSVCA Academic All-State. Typically, there also is an SAT or ACT required score, but those were not factored this year because many students were unable to take those assessments because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
A total of 721 athletes from 234 high schools received Academic All-State accolades from the IHSVCA.
