COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Martinsville volleyball team defeated Columbus North 3-0 on Saturday (Oct. 17) in the semifinals of the Columbus East Sectional.
The Artesians refused to be deterred with the 25-10, 25-21, 25-22 triumph.
For the Bull Dogs, junior Sarah Bennett paced the attack with eight kills, one service ace and one block. Senior Madison White provided seven kills and one block, while senior Madi Roop totaled two kills, 11 digs, one block.
Junior Reagan Kane contributed 18 assists and eight digs, while senior Ava McKinney tallied 14 digs and junior Sydney Cooper had one ace.
Martinsville advanced to the sectional final at 7 p.m. Saturday against No. 11 Columbus East, which posted a 25-18, 14-25, 25-18, 25-8 decision over Bloomington North.
Columbus North ended its season at 9-22. Bloomington North closed 18-11.
In the championship match, Martinsville overcome a first-set setback to knock off Columbus East 19-25, 25-21, 25-17, 10-25, 15-13.
The Artesians (20-9) captured their 24th sectional championship and qualified for the Bloomington North Regional next Saturday (Oct. 24), where they will face the winner of the Jennings County Sectional in the first semifinal. Winners from the Floyd Central and Jasper sectionals will meet in the second semifinal. The semifinals winners will play for the regional title later next Saturday.
The Olympians, who were seeking their 26th sectional crown, saw their season conclude at 20-6.
