Kleinhenz, Smith and Watson post runner-up efforts; Columbus North wrestling places fifth in Conference Indiana

                INDIANAPOLIS – Senior Brigham Kleinhenz, junior Morgan Smith and sophomore Keandre Watson each posted runner-up finishes Friday night (Jan. 19) to lead the Columbus North wrestling team to fifth place in the Conference Indiana championships.

                Perry Meridian collected nine individual blue ribbons en route to 301 team points and its 17th consecutive team championship in the competition at Southport High School. The Falcons claimed crowns at 106 pounds, 113 pounds, 120 pounds, 145 pounds, 160 pounds, 170 pounds, 182 pounds, 195 pounds and 220 pounds.

                Bloomington South was team runner-up with three individual titles and 207 points. Southport placed third with 155.5 points followed by Franklin Central with 126, Columbus North with 120, Bloomington North with 117.5, Terre Haute South with 92.5 and Terre Haute North with 57.

                Franklin Central and Bloomington North each took one individual blue ribbon.

                For Columbus North, Kleinhenz went 2-1 at 182 pounds, Smith went 2-1 at 106 pounds and Watson went 2-1 at 126 pounds. Junior Bradley Gutierrez went 3-1 at 220 pounds for third place, while freshman Tyler Williams was 2-2 for fourth place at 113 pounds and freshman Royce Lofton was 2-2 for fourth place at 145 pounds.

                Junior Dallin Anderson went 2-2 for fifth place at 138 pounds, and junior Tay Wells went 2-2 for fifth place at 195 pounds. Senior Thomas Hancock went 1-3 for sixth place at 160 pounds.

                Three CN athletes went 0-2 and did not place – freshman Ashton Clark at 120 pounds, junior Dylan England at 152 pounds and sophomore Rashan Wells at 285 pounds.

                The Bull Dogs return to action at 9 a.m. next Saturday (Jan. 27) in the Jennings County Sectional.
