Columbus North wrestling tops Western Boone, falls to Edgewood

                COLUMBUS, Ind. – Senior Keegan Hill went 2-0 with a pin on Wednesday (Dec. 23), helping the Columbus North wrestling team split a pair of dual matches with Western Boone and Edgewood in Memorial Gym.

                The Bull Dogs defeated Western Boone 48-24 in the day’s opening match. Edgewood topped Columbus North 54-24 in the final match. Edgewood also beat Western Boone 60-12 in the third match of the round-robin competition.

                Freshmen Eddy Lin and Brysen Hutt also went 2-0 for the day, but they each claimed two forfeit victories as the the host Bull Dogs saw their team record move to 7-7 by going 1-1 for the day.

                Hill won by forfeit against Western Boone, then followed by pinning Edgewood’s Reece Novak to move his individual season mark to 8-6. Lin and Hutt, with the two forfeit victories, improved their respective season records to 8-6 and 7-3.

                CN athletes posting 1-1 marks for the day were freshman Jason Shuey, freshman Liam Milne, sophomore Liam Phillips, sophomore Jake Shively, sophomore Oscar Rubio, junior Bryce Abner and junior Hector De Dios.

                Shuey pinned Western Boone’s Evan Trent in the first match at 126 pounds but lost his second match. Milne won by forfeit at 138 points against Western Boone but lost his second match. Phillips claimed a 6-4 decision over Western Boone’s Ethan Williams at 152 pounds but lost his second match. Shively won by forfeit at 220 pounds against Western Boone but lost his second match. Rubio claimed a 5-4 decision over Western Boone’s Perrin Emberton at 285 pounds but lost his second match.

                Abner and De Dios alternated matches at 160 pounds and 170 pounds. De Dios won by forfeit at 160 pounds against Western Boone but lost at 170 pounds against Edgewood. Abner lost at 170 pounds against Western Boone, but he rebounded by pinning Edgewood’s Gabe Novak at 160 pounds.

                Others competing for the Bull Dogs were sophomore Jerry Newland at 132 pounds, junior Carlos Rodriguez at 145 pounds and sophomore Ryan Staley at 182 pounds. There were double forfeits at 106 pounds in both matches.

                Columbus North is scheduled to return to action at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5 in a dual match at Seymour.
