Wrestlers secure best Conference Indiana Meet finish since 2008

 

     January 15, 2022 - The Columbus North Bull Dogs wrestling team crowned two Conference Indiana Champions en route to a second place team finish in the Conference Indiana Wrestling meet held at Southport High School on January 15.  This was the highest Columbus North finish in this event since 2008.

     Terre Haute South edged Columbus North for the team title.  The Panthers of Bloomington South finished third.  Final team standings were as follows:

  1. Terre Haute South 237

  2. Columbus North 228.5

  3. Bloomington South 225

  4. Southport 205

  5. Terre Haute North 175.5

  6. Bloomington North 168

     Individually, freshman Justice Thornton won the Conference Indiana title at 126 pounds.  Senior Jared Slocum grabbed the second individual conference title at 182 for the Dogs.  Complete individual results for the Bull Dogs included:

106 pounds: Liam Curfman (15-6) (3rd place, 18 team points)

113 pounds: Bryce Hawkins (13-10) (3rd place, 17 team points)

120 pounds: Joseph Cloud (3-1) (3rd place, 18 team points)

126 pounds: Justice Thornton (28-2) (1st place, 23 team points)

132 pounds: Jason Shuey (17-10) (2nd place, 18 team points)

138 pounds: Evan Saevre (10-6) (3rd place, 16 team points)

145 pounds: Josiah Green (14-16) (6th place, 6 team points)

152 pounds: Liam Phillips (17-10) (4th place, 13.5 team points)

160 pounds: Luke Spurgeon (8-11) (5th place, 10 team points)

170 pounds: Keller DeSpain (8-11) (5th place, 9 team points)

182 pounds: Jared Slocum (26-5) (1st place, 22 team points)

195 pounds: Bryce Abner (15-9) (2nd place, 20 team points)

220 pounds: Alexander Lozano (8-12) (3rd place, 18 team points)

285 pounds: Cody Thurnall (7-9) (2nd place, 20 team points)

     Congratulations to these Bull Dogs and Coach Matt Joyce.  As a team, the Bull Dogs led the Conference Indiana meet with the most pins and technical falls (16) and the most total match points (170).

     The Bull Dogs will travel to Bedford North Lawrence for a dual meet on Thursday, January 20 (6:30 pm).
