Wrestlers crown two sectional champions and finish runner-up as a team

January 29, 2022 - After a 14-5 dual meet record in the regular season, head coach Matt Joyce took his wrestling team to the Jennings County Sectional with momentum and high expectations.  The Bull Dogs advanced ten wrestlers to the Jeffersonville Regional, crowned two sectional champions, and finished second in the team competition.

Liam Curfman was the sectional champion at 106 pounds, and Justice Thornton won the 126 pound champion.  Also appearing in the championship finals were Liam Phillips, who finished second at 152 pounds, and Jared Slocum, runner-up at 182 pounds.

All wrestlers who finished in the top four positions at each weight class will advance to Regionals.  Joining the four Bull Dog finalists at the Jeffersonville Regionals will be Bryce Hawkins (4th at 113), Jason Shuey (4th at 132), Josiah Green (4th at 145), Keller DeSpain (3rd at 170), Bryce Abner (4th at 195), and Alexander Lazano (3rd at 220).

The team collected 201.5 points, finishing second to Columbus East in the team event.
