Junior Wade Rankin went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs to pace a five-hit attack for the Bull Dogs, who went 2-1 over two days in the three-game event to complete their regular season at 16-10. Junior Korry Drum went 1-for-2 and senior Collin Lollar went 1-for-3 but each scored three times. Junior Logan Jones also added one hit.

Earlier Saturday, Rankin went 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs and an RBI, but it was not enough as Columbus North fell 10-9 to host McCutcheon in the second round.

CN tried to come back one last time, but two seventh-inning runs were not enough. Jones and Wetherald provided seventh-inning RBIs.
The Bull Dogs knocked off Crown Point 4-3 on Friday (May 20) with a three-run seventh-inning rally in the event’s opening round.

“I’ve been talking for the past couple of weeks to the guys,” CN coach Ben McDaniel said. “A handful of teams catch lightning in a bottle, and we have to see if we can make that us.
“We did not play well in this event last season, and that carried over into sectional. But this year, we battled all weekend and feel good about how we are leaving here. We’re back to playing Bull Dog baseball, and I am proud of our guys.”
The Columbus North freshman baseball team was to play a doubleheader at Greensburg on Saturday, but those games were canceled. The CN freshmen close their season at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday (May 24) at Southport.
The Bull Dogs’ varsity is back in action at 8 p.m. Wednesday (May 25) when it faces Shelbyville in the first round of sectional play at Bloomington North.
