BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Nick Wright went 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and three RBIs Friday night (May 27) to lead the Bloomington South baseball team to a 10-1 victory over Columbus North in the semifinals of the Bloomington North Sectional.
Luke Barrow also had three hits, while Devin Buchtman and Isaiah Shake had two hits apiece for the Panthers (19-9), who earned a spot in the sectional final at 7 p.m. Monday (May 30).
Senior Canaan Baum singled twice for the Bull Dogs. Junior Cooper Trinkle, senior Collin Lollar, junior Wade Rankin and senior Ben Thompson also added one hit each for CN.
Wright doubled in the first inning as the Panthers scored twice in the frame.
The Bull Dogs countered when Rankin scored a run in the second inning, but they were unable to score again off Bloomington South sophomore Alex Franklin (5-0).
On the other side, Wright and Tyler Van Pelt smacked back-to-back home runs to produce three runs in the third, Buchtman singled in a run in the fourth, Tyler Blackwell drove home two runs and later scored on a wild pitch in the fifth, and singles by Barrow and Buchtman combined with two wild pitches accounted for one more run in the sixth.
Columbus North completed its season at 17-11.
