Boys Varsity Baseball
COLUMBUS, Ind. – Senior Evan Franks doubled in two runs in the third inning Tuesday (April 16), and the Franklin Central baseball team went on post a 14-7 victory over Columbus North at Southside Elementary School.
Sophomore Aidan Ewers went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for the Flashes, who improved to 3-8. Seniors Jarod Gillespie and Michael Stonebreaker each contributed two singles to an 11-hit attack that was buoyed by nine Bull Dog errors.
Sophomore Reese Harmon went 2-for-3 to lead the offense for Columbus North, which fell to 9-3. Junior Grant Trinkle added an RBI double, while junior Casper Clark and sophomores Austin Bode, Blake Huffman and Kyler McIntosh each had a single.
Franks’ double keyed a five-run third inning for Franklin Central, but the Bull Dogs countered with four runs in the bottom of the third to close their deficit to 6-4. The Flashes broke the game open in the fourth inning, combining three hits and five CN errors to take an 11-4 advantage.
At the JV level, junior Pedro Munoz had three hits and five RBIs to lead Columbus North to a 11-1 decision. Sophomore Aaron Rork added a single and a home run, while freshman pitcher Dyllan Redmon struck out 10 en route to picking up the victory for the Bull Dogs (7-3).
The Columbus North varsity returns to action at 6 p.m. Wednesday (April 17) when it resumes a suspended game at Bloomington North. The Bull Dogs led 3-1 with one out in the top of the seventh on April 4 when the game was halted.
The varsity follows by visiting Jennings County at 5:30 p.m. Thursday (April 18) and traveling to Roncalli at 11 a.m. Saturday (April 20). The JV hosts Roncalli and Avon in the Columbus North JV Classic on Saturday (April 20), the CN-Roncalli game at 11 a.m. and the CN-Avon game at 4 p.m.
