COLUMBUS, Ind. – Sophomore Kyler McIntosh delivered a walk-off RBI single while pitchers Reese Harmon and Jakob Meyer combined on a shutout Tuesday (April 23), lifting the Columbus North baseball team to a 1-0 victory over Southport at Southside Elementary School.
McIntosh’s hit was just the Bull Dogs’ fourth of the game and made a hard-luck loser of Cardinals junior Ryan Lezon, who allowed just one hit prior to the seventh inning.
Columbus North improved to 12-3 for the season and 2-0 in Conference Indiana contests. Southport fell to 1-1 in league games.
CN junior Adam Chapman drew a walk to open the bottom of the seventh. After two outs, Harmon singled to right to advance Chapman to third. McIntosh, facing an 0-1 count, followed with a ground single between shortstop and third base to bring in the decisive run.
Harmon finished with two hits, while junior Casper Clark also singled for the Bull Dogs. Lezon and junior Ryan Peterson-Womack each had one hit for Southport.
Meyer picked up the victory on the mound. The senior right-hander struck out three and allowed no hits in 1.1 innings. He came on for Harmon, a sophomore right-hander who struck out eight, walked for and allowed two hits in 5.2 innings.
Lezon struck out five, walked four and gave up four hits in 6.2 innings in absorbing the setback.
At the JV level, the Bull Dogs won 4-1 to improve to 8-3.
At the JV level, the Bull Dogs claimed a 4-1 decision. Freshman Will Baker was the winning pitcher. Freshman Dyllan Redmon and sophomore Jacob Bailey each had an RBI for Columbus North (8-3).
The Bull Dogs return to action on Thursday (April 25) when the face Seymour. The varsity game is at 5:45 p.m. at the Southside complex. The JV game is at 5 p.m. at Seymour.
